I say “lasting” because we have all lost those same 20 pounds over and over again. Real food sets the foundation – not just for losing weight in the beginning – but also for keeping it off. THAT is the holy grail!

Fruits and veggies are some of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet! They have the fuel – vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals that literally speaks to our cells and tells them what they need to do.
In particular, our liver – our main detoxification and fat burning organ, performs at it’s best when it’s getting the right nutrients – most of which are found in plant food such as kale, bok choy, avocado, berries, beets, etc. So love your liver with the right foods and metabolize that fat off your hips!
But here’s the thing – The recommendation for these nutrient dense foods that our bodies need is 5-7 servings a day. 90% of us do not get that in a day. However, with your smoothies – you can easily get 4-5 servings in one drink!
Fact – People who eat the most fruits and veggies are the leanest!
Plus when your body is not getting the right fuel – hunger pangs start kicking in – because your cells are still literally starving after those Snackwell cookies, which are void of any nutrition. So you eat more, which is exactly what you don’t want to do!

When it comes to weight loss, the number is calories that you eat is very important. One of the reasons that we often do not see results from our weight loss efforts is that we are eating too much.
Fruits and veggies are low calorie foods that can lead to easier weight loss. For example – a cup of spinach has 15 calories. This makes your smoothies, which are full of low calorie fruits and veggies, an excellent choice for weight loss.
Additionally, produce is rich in fiber and water – which will leave you feeling more satiated and fuller for longer.

In my corporate life, I worked 12-hour days and was often rushing out of the house in the morning, then coming home super exhausted to have time to do anything great for my nutrition.

Smoothies are so filling that you can make them a meal all by themselves. To boost the nutrition and satiating power, you can add some sources of protein and fat – such as nutbutters, protein powders, seeds, cottage cheese, avocados … to name a few.
Protein stimulates fat metabolism and muscle growth … it is also very filling, which makes it an essential weight loss food. Fat is similar in that it very satiating and it helps your body to absorb the better absorb certain nutrients in your smoothie.
So adding some fat and protein to your smoothie – can really help to keep you fully satisfied until your next meal. Nothing can derail a weight loss plan faster than hunger pains!

Let’s take you back to college and to Economics 101 – the Crowding Out Theory – but this time we apply it to nutrition.
What this basically says is that you crowd out unhealthy food choices, by just adding healthier choices. Don’t focus so much on what you “shouldn’t” eat. If you instead start eating more fruits and veggies and nutrient dense foods, then you will naturally eat less of the foods that can ruin your weight loss plan.
So with your smoothies, you increase your healthy foods, which leaves little room for other stuff – effectively crowding it out.
